Vincent Van Gogh : Railway

Railway

In Zundert, located near the Belgian border on the main road, which was maintained (and not free), leading from Breda to Anvers, there was a big traffic of stagecoaches, carts and travellers. In 1854, a railway was opened between Breda and Rosendaal (on the border), depriving Zundert of the economic activities linked to this traffic. The stagecoaches service, whose offices and warehouses were located in Zundert, would close on the following year, cutting many jobs.
