That young peasant was Vincent’s model for quite a long time. Painted with her Brabant peasant hairdo and looks, she’s also one of the characters (from behind) in the painting “Mangeurs de Pomme de Terre”(“Potatoe Eaters”).
Vincent will be accused of getting her pregnant by the sexton Schaffrat. He claims his innocence and affims he knows the father’s identity, that Gordina told him.
Despite his protests, Schaffrat forbids his parishioners to pose for him. As his workshop is located very near the sexton’s house, the tensions keep growing and Vincent will feel obliged to go away (at least a few months, or so he thought).
