Dorus Van Gogh : Misappropriation
In 1849, Vincent's father arrives in Zundert. It is his first post. He must manage the church's properties. A deacon, Isaac Blees, who asked for more money to help villagers accused him of embezzling a donation. According to Blees, a page mentioning a significant donation had been ripped out from Zundert register. He sued Dorus and the association supported the latter who demonstrated that several missing pages had been ripped out long before his coming to Zundert. He told the Council that if he was not exculpated, he wouldn't be able to remain a minister in Zundert. That indictment must have unsettled him and give him trouble on the very year of his marriage with Anna Carbentus. |
