Vincent Van Gogh at Ramsgate

Still in the midst of a crisis, after being dismissed from the gallery which had employed him for six years, Vincent is looking for a job in England. He wants to get closer to Eugenie, a vain love, not yet swallowed. Thanks to the reading of English papers, he finds a job as coach in a small school by the sea, southeast of London. But he won't be paid, only fed and accommodated. Vincent makes two drawings of the same Ramsgate square there. Moneyless, he goes to London on foot, and probably tries to see Eugenie again... But comes back exhausted, in the rain... He spends a few months there, and will follow the school which moves to Isleworth, near London.
